The Access Piqua Television Association (APTA), “What’s Happening In Piqua” Script Collection was accessioned into the Piqua Public Library in January 2010 as a donation from Mr. James Oda.

 

Matthew Caldwell, Sr. HOF

2004 HALL OF FAME WINNER Matthew Caldwell Sr. (1757-1810) Caldwell was born in Ireland and immigrated to the United States shortly after the Revolutionary War. He brought his family into the untamed forests of the Upper Miami Valley in 1805 and cleared land for a small family farm. With a vision of future growth, he joined with John Manning in 1807 and laid out lots along the Great Miami River for the new village of Washington. Caldwell and his family helped the new community grow into the city of Piqua.

2002 HALL OF FAME WINNER Godwin Volney Dorsey (1812 – 1885) Dorsey moved to Piqua in 1836 and began his practice as a physician and surgeon. He served as the Ohio Treasurer of State at the beginning of the Civil War and became the first state official to promote equal bonus’ for both white and African-American soldiers. Dorsey served as a delegate for the 1850 and 1873 Ohio Constitutiona

2007 HALL OF FAME WINNER Belle C. Buchanan Evans (1854 - 19    ) She was born and graduated from high school in Piqua. She served as the first female physician in Piqua in the 1880’s, an era when medicine was almost completely dominated by men. She received her medical degree from Pulte Medical College in 1883 as a homoeopathic physician. She began practice in Piqua in 1883, specializing in the diseases of women and children. She set up a dispensary on the public square for the care of those in need. Dr.
