PIQUA FURNITURE COMPANY COLLECTION
INTRODUCTION
The Piqua Furniture Company Collection was accessioned into the Flesh Public Library Archives on December 15, 1980. The collection fills eleven Hollinger boxes and sixty-one file folders. The collection covers the years 1906-1913.
There are no restrictions on the use of this collection and the literary copyright has been deeded to the public.
SCOPE AND CONTENTS
The Piqua Furniture Company Collection is divided into three series: Financial Records, Production and Order Records, and Employee Time Records.
SERIES I-FINANCIAL RECORDS: covers the business prospectus, 1907 inventory, blue prints of building, factory size, deed search, building permits, incorporation articles, capital stock certificates, tax receipts and statements, personal notes, check book stubs, cancelled notes, statements showing commissions paid to salesmen. A loose folder holds a cash book. Bank books, as well as cancelled checks are in this series. The account ledgers are in loose folders.
SERIES II-PRODUCTION AND ORDER RECORDS: cover their price list –miscellaneous correspondence, production book, cutting orders for table slides, material purchases, order books. An index of companies and their orders and accounts is included. Copies of letters, written copies of invoices, order index books, and a listing of lumber, are also included.
SERIES III-EMPLOYEE TIME RECORDS: cover weekly time and payroll books from the following departments: Cabinet, Finishing, Glue, Packing, Veneer, Machine, Shipping, and Yard.
HISTORY
By June 1907, the Piqua Novelty Wood and Turning Company, located on the northeast corner of South Avenue and Clark Avenue in Piqua, Ohio, had been in business sixteen months and realized sales of $15,000.00 Partners in the business were Charles H. Miller, John H. Young, Joel W. Flesh, and H.E. Whitlock. They manufactured library tables, and other novelty furniture. On June 13, 1907, they organized a corporation with an authorized capital stock of $25,000.00 (250 shares at $100.00 each). The stock was sold as follows:

The firm was incorporated under the name: Piqua Furniture Company. J.W. Flesh was elected president and Charles L. Suessman, secretary. On December 18, 1908, the officers representing the stockholders agreed to increase the capital stock from $25,000.00 to $75,000.00 (750 shares at $100.00 each)
On February 11, 1913, a final transfer of the checkbook balance ($7.05) was made to the company’s receiver, S. Mendelsohn. The Klanke Furniture Company bought the property on November 2, 1913.
