CHURCH WOMEN UNITED COLLECTION
INTRODUCTION
The collection of the Church Women United was accessioned into the Flesh Public Library Archives 6 March 1986. The collection fills two Hollinger boxes and fifteen individual folders. The collection covers the years 1910-1988. There are no restrictions on the use of this collection and the Literary Copyright has been deeded to the public.
SCOPE AND CONTENTS
Church Women United Collection is divided into five series: Secretary’s Books, Financial, Correspondence and Reports, Publicity and Miscellaneous.
SERIES I: SECRETARY’S BOOKS - covers Minutes of Meetings, clippings and member lists mounted in books from 1910 to 1988. Social Action Workshop Meetings are also included.
SERIES II: FINANCIAL – covers financial records of the Bonanza Shop form April 1968 to September 1972.
SERIES III: CORRESPONDENCE AND REPORTS – covers a limited amount of same.
SERIES IV: PUBLICITY – covers newspaper clippings and a few programs from 1966 to 1973.
SERIES V: MISCELLANEOUS – covers Constitution and By-Laws, “Notebook” publication and state bulletins and pamphlets. A handbook of Miami County is included giving a history and workings of all townships.
HISTORY
Piqua Missionary Federation was formed November 1910 by Mrs. John H. Young. She invited various Missionary Societies of Piqua Churches to her home – PURPOSE – to form a Missionary Federation. OBJECT – to promote unity and deep interest in missions in the various churches. Ten churches were represented at the first meeting: W.P. Christian, Episcopal, Baptist, Cyrene A.M.E., Grace M.E., Park Avenue Baptist, Greene Street M.E., Church of Christ and Presbyterian.

In 1938 the name was changed to Piqua Council of Federated Church Women. In 1963 the name was changed to United Church Women of Piqua, Ohio. In 1967 the name was changed to the present title, Church Women United. Church Women United give their time and devotion to a host of local projects: Miami County Abuse Center, Meals On Wheels, Hospice Program, Rehabilitation Center and Head Start just to mention a few. Under a spiritual heading they are very active in sponsoring “World Day of Prayer” and “World Community Day”.
A goodly sum to support some of their projects is realized in the Bonanza Shop where donated clothing is sold at very nominal prices. Church Women United is an active and vital organization with a membership of devoted ladies and is quite an asset to the City of Piqua
