BROWN – KLINE COLLECTION
INTRODUCTION
The Brown-Kline Collection was accessioned into the Flesh Public Library Archives 3 April 1991. The collection fills three Hollinger boxes and forty individual folders. The collection covers the years 1880-1980. There are no restrictions on the use of this collection and the literary copyright has been deeded to the public.
SCOPE AND CONTENT
The Brown – Kline Collection is divided into two series: Marshall, Brown, Kline Papers and Margaret Kline Papers and Pictures.
SERIES I: MARSHALL, BROWN, KLINE PAPERS – covers the Marshall Family History and Genealogy, Marion Brown, his brothers and mother and William Kline, father of Margaret Kline.
SERIES II: MARGARET KLINE PAPERS AND PICTURES – covers her early life, school years, teaching years and many pictures of friends and gatherings.
HISTORY
According to our records, Edward Marshall, living in Pennsylvania in 1737, was the first person located in the Marshall-Brown-Kline Genealogy. Moses Marshall, third son of Edward, was born in 1741 – married Agnes Kulp in 1761 and died in 1828. William and Martin Marshall – sons of Moses – came to Miami County, Ohio in 1832. Margaret Marshall Brown Snyder – daughter of William was born in 1821 – died in 1899. Her second husband was John Snyder. Margaret’s children were: Marion Brown – 1846-1920; Henry Brown – died in the Civil War; William Brown; Charles Brown; Franklin Brown and Emma Jane Snyder – 1856-1937. Emma married William M. Kline [born 1858 in Elizabeth City, N. J. – died in 1895]. Emma and William’s children were Marion Kline and Margaret Kline [born 31 October 1891 – died 20 March 1991].
The bulk of material found in this collection concerns Marion Brown and his niece Margaret Kline. Marion Brown was employed as a conductor on the railroad. He was a well liked individual and was very popular in the community. He resided at 407 River Street [now Riverside], Piqua. Margaret Kline was a Piqua School Teacher and became Principal at Spring Street School. She was a member of Altrusa and Greenleaf Garden Club. She was artistic – painting in oils and taking blue ribbons at the County Fair for her flower arrangements. She had a lovely disposition and a charming personality and many, many friends. She resided at 329 Park Avenue, Piqua.
