HISTORY
In the fall of 1975 three members of the Board of Trustees of the Piqua Historical Museum began to formulate a plan for the organization of a local historical society.
The museum was only three years old and new volunteers were needed to aid in its growth. A society was formally incorporated on January 30, 1976 with Janet K. Koon, Howard B. Hogston, and Donald Bertling serving as the first trustees. In December 1976 Miss Mary Mitchell, a member of an early Piqua family, is credited with purchasing the new organization’s first membership.
Organizational meetings were held in March and April of 1977. The first recorded formal meeting was May 17, 1977 when the Society elected its first officers. They were Bruce Hogston, president; Dick Palsgrove, vice-president; Bonnie Searles, secretary; and James Oda, treasurer.
