AD HOC COMMITTEE ON COMMUNITY DIVERSITY COLLECTION
INTRODUCTION
The Ad Hoc Committee on Community Diversity Collection was accessioned into the Flesh Public Library Archives and Special Collection on 2 October 2007. The collection contains the files of the secretary of the committee, Gary Meek. The collection fills one Hollinger box with 21 files. Since this is a publicly created committee and its actions are a matter of public record and its files are open to public scrutiny, there are no restrictions on the use of this material.
The event which led to the creation of The Ad Hoc Committee on Community Diversity was a presentation by Larry Hamilton to the Piqua City Commission at its regular meeting in December 2006. Mr. Hamilton’s presentation pointed out an apparent lack of diversity in the naming of streets and public buildings in Piqua. The Commission’s response was the creation of this committee to study the problem and make recommendations to the Commission by October 2007. The minutes and other documents in this collection tell the story of the deliberations which led to the resolution which was adopted by the City Commission at its regular meeting on 1 October 2007.
