THE JANICE LYONS ROBBINS AND LOWELL ROBBINS SCRAPBOOK COLLECTION

 

INTRODUCTION

 

The Janice Lyons Robbins and Lowell Robbins Scrapbook Collection was accessioned into the Piqua Public Library Archives and Special Collections in January 2009.  The collection is housed in one Gaylord box containing sixty-four files.  The rights to the collection have been deeded to the Piqua Public Library and there are no restrictions on the use of the materials in this collection.

 

SCOPE AND CONTENT

 

The Janice Lyons Robbins and Lowell Robbins Scrapbook Collection is divided into the following five series:

 

SERIES I:                     Scrapbook pages from which artifacts were saved and preserved.  Files 1 – 10.

 

SERIES II:                    Artifacts not attached to scrapbook pages.  Files 11-34

SERIES III:                  Scrapbook pages containing only newspaper clippings.  Files 35-49

 

SERIES IV:                  Newspaper clippings saved in a box with the scrapbook pages.  Files 50-53

 

SERIES V:                    Newspaper pages.  Files 54-64

 

HISTORY

 

Janice was born in Piqua on a farm on Bausman Road in 1931.  Her parents were farmers and her father, Bernard “Barney” Lyons, was a bus driver for the Piqua schools for many years.  Janice worked at the YMCA in Piqua as the Food Service Coordinator for in excess of twenty years. 

 

Lowell was born in Shelby County north of Conover and graduated from Conover/Lena High School.  Lowell was engaged in the family farm and worked as a feed salesman for several years.

 

Janice and Lowell were married in August of 1951.  The met through Farm Bureau activities and were married for 55 years.  They made their home on a farm just north of Fletcher, Ohio.  The marriage produced four children: Karen, Michael, Kay and Jerry.

 

The newspapers and clippings and loose pages are a combination of the scrapbooks of both Janice and Lowell Robbins.
