Piqua Memorial Medical Center Auxiliary Collection
Introduction
The Piqua Memorial Medical Center Auxiliary Collection was accessioned into the Piqua Public Library Archives and Special Collections in the fall of 2010 as a donation by Lorna Swisher from Dorie Perry. The collection concentrates on the period from 1992-1996 when Mrs. Perry was in a leadership position with the Auxiliary. Some materials extend back to 1986 when the Auxiliary was re-created and forward to 1998 when the Piqua Memorial Medical Center Auxiliary was melded into the Upper Valley Medical Center Auxiliary and the Piqua Memorial Medical Center was closed.
Piqua Memorial Medical Center Auxiliary was a volunteer organization whose function was to assist the hospital and to raise funds to purchase items for the hospital which were outside the normal hospital budget. The auxiliary staffed and maintained the hospital gift shop. The most visible project of the auxiliary other than the gift shop was the musical variety show “Fractured Follies.” “Fractured Follies” involved community members and hospital staff and was produced every two years from 1982 to 1996.
The collection is housed in two Hollinger boxes containing forty files. The collection is available for use by researchers and there are no restrictions on the use of the materials contained in the collection.
