HISTORY
The Piqua Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution was organized June 13, 1896, at the home of Mrs. James Hicks. Flag Day, falling on Sunday, the 13th, was observed. The required number for organization, twelve charter members, were present. Mrs. Hicks proceeded to organize the chapter. The twelve charter members were Mrs. Ella M. Statler, Mrs. Gertrude M. Irvin, Mrs. Bessie Royer, Miss Daisy M. Smith, Miss Nellie Wood, Miss Martha Wood, Mrs. Bessie Slauson, Mrs. Martha Geyer, Mrs. Anna Hall, Mrs. Louise Wood McKinney, Miss Mary Hall, and Mrs. Addie Gross.
The following officers were elected: Regent – Mrs. James Hicks; Vice-Regent – Mrs. Slauson; Recording Secretary – Miss Wood; Corresponding Secretary – Miss Smith; Treasurer – Mrs. Royer; Historian – Mrs. McKinney; Registrar – Mrs. Irvin.
On July 3rd a called meeting was held to select a name for the chapter. Mrs. Louise Wood McKinney suggested the name Piqua, a name rich in Indian legend and history. Mrs. Hicks then presented the chapter with a framed charter, national number 275.
