OHIO WEEK COLLECTION
BACKGROUND AND INTRODUCTION
Ohio Week Collection was accessioned into the Archives from the Information and Research Department of Flesh Public Library. Ohio Week began publication on 1 October 1993 and ceased publication with the May 27-June 2, 1994 issue. The collection contains all but the first four issues, and the December 31, 1993-January 6, 1994 issue.
Ohio Week was printed on newsprint paper, in the 10½ x 12¼ inch tabloid format, and in color. There were generally four major articles per issue. These articles were about people, places, and events in Ohio. In addition to the four articles, there were five departments. “Inside Ohio” was the editor’s note or view about the magazine or a topic of interest. “Ohio Upfront” featured “news, notes, and novelties from across the Buckeye State.” “Out and About Ohio” was the entertainment section, which discussed activities that would be occurring in Ohio within the next few weeks. “Postmark Ohio” was the letters to the editor department. Finally there was the “Ohio Quiz”, which tested the reader’s knowledge of Ohio.
The magazine attempted to carve a niche for itself among publications about local, regional, and state affairs and activities in Ohio. However, the niche was too finely carved and competition from other more widely established publications forced Ohio Week to cease publication after eight months. This collection consists of 30 issues in one Hollinger box, beginning with the October 29-November 4, 1993 issue and continuing on through the last issue, May 27-June 2, 1994 (with, as previously noted, one issue missing). There are no restrictions on the use of these materials from the library, however copyright restrictions may apply.
