RAYNER GLASS PLATE NEGATIVE COLLECTION
INTRODUCTION
John Allen Rayner was born on a farm outside Piqua on December 8, 1864. He became interested in history and archaeology and spent much of his time collecting artifacts. He wrote and published The First Century of Piqua in 1917. Many of the photographs in that book were made from negatives in this collection. Many of the prehistoric artifacts he collected are owned by the Piqua Historical Museum. Mr. Rayner also served as a township clerk from 1923 until his death in October, 1929.
SCOPE AND CONTENTS
The Rayner Glass Plate Negative Collection consists of three Hollinger boxes and sixty-seven file folders. There are ninety-five glass plate negatives in this collection. It is divided into five series: First Century of Piqua, Relics, Canal Scenes, Identified Photos, and Miscellaneous.
