Piqua Public Library Holiday Display 2020 "The Nutcracker"
The holidays are different this year, and we want everyone to enjoy our decorations. If you can't visit the Library right now, you can look at this photo "tour" of our holiday decor.
Our 2020 Holiday theme this year is "The Nutcracker." We'll start outside on McCulloch Square. Doesn't the gazebo look cheerful? It also offers an excellent view of the Fort Piqua Plaza.
For several years, the Library has had local artist, Michael Glass, paint our front window. We love the pop of red in his design!
As we step into the building, giant nutcrackers greet us.
The display cases this year focus on popular Christmas stories. These stories include Charles Dickens, Charlie Brown, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and the Twelve Days of Christmas. Additional Christmas displays feature The Changing Views of Santa and nativity sets from Russia, Ukraine, and Mexico. We appreciate Barb Bollenbacher for allowing us to display her menorahs and dreidels.
Instead of one large main tree, we have three trees this year. Their decorations are from "The Nutcracker." Choosing a theme for the main tree is usually the first decision made when planning for our decor.
Downstairs in the Children's Department, we spot the Rat King! Oh, wait, it's just our brave mouse, Despereaux, dressed up! The Children's Department has beautiful gold stars hanging from the ceiling. If you would like to be a Library Elf, check out the tree with the red paper ornaments. The Girl Scout's Christmas Tree has been decorated annually at the Library for over 50 years! We appreciate Vivian Grimes letting us display her holiday village.
In the Rollin Gallery, we see artwork by Library staff member Missy Hines. Her show, "Season's Greetings," features holiday fall and winter cards and postcards. It's the third year for our annual Community Christmas Trees display. Vote for your favorite Community Christmas Tree online.
We have adorned the second floor of the Library with festive garland and jolly elves. Be sure to stop by the Reading Room and Local History to see their decorations.
We'll end our tour with some photos of the Fort Piqua Plaza at night. The building sparkles with lights and freshly fallen snow.
Special thanks to Library staff and volunteers for their help decorating this year: Bill, Juanita, Yuri, Sharon W., Angela, Jim, Jordyne, Missy, Brenda, Courtney, Beth, Angie, Catherine, Deb B., Gary, Donna W., and Larry W.
Thank you to Library staff and community members who took photographs of this year's display: Gary, Tess, Yuri, Judy, and Courtney.
The Piqua Public Library would like to wish you Happy Holidays. We hope that you have a safe and joyous New Year.
